The William Osler Society of Australia & New Zealand
As outlined in its constitution, The William Osler Society of Australia & New Zealand (or WOSANZ for short) is a professional medical-humanities group that has been founded to stimulate the study of medical history (in its broadest sense) amongst health care professionals in the Australasia region. In the tradition of Sir William Osler (1849-1919) – who passed away a century ago and whose legacy the Society duly honours – WOSANZ endorses the medical humanities as a valuable adjunct to clinical medicine, and promotes its pursuit alongside a mastery of medicine’s scientific curriculum. The society was founded in 2019 by twin-brother physician trainees and medical history enthusiasts Drs Nadeem and Zaheer Toodayan.
Dr Nadeem Toodayan
Nadeem is a physician-trainee from Brisbane, Australia. His long-standing interest in medical history began with a curiosity around eponymous terminologies in medical school, and he has written and presented widely on historical subjects. He has a special interest in the life and legacy of Sir William Osler (1849-1919), and is an elected member of both the American Osler Society and The Osler Club of London.
Dr Zaheer Toodayan
Zaheer is a physician-trainee from Brisbane, Australia. He has amateur interests in the history of medicine and science, and further enjoys recreational pursuits in astronomy, aviation, and physics. His skills as a photographer, videographer, and designer have been invaluable to many of the Society’s productions.
